The Glorious Lamp of Heaven"The Lord God is a sun." Psa 84:11 A week or two ago, when we were all looking with interest towards the eclipse of the moon, I took up again a fascinating volume which I doubt that many of you have read. The volume I refer to is the Story of … Continue reading The Glorious Lamp of Heaven

Student Wins Case to Talk about Jesus during Graduation Ceremony Speech
A Colorado Mesa University student has succeeded in her fight to be allowed to mention Jesus and the Bible in her graduation speech.
Relevant Magazine reports that student Karissa Erickson gave the speech last Friday at her school’s graduation ceremony. Although the university has a rule prohibiting religious content in school-related speeches, Erickson, with the help of Alliance Defending Freedom, appealed this rule and won.
The university had initially told Erickson that “speeches should be free of any one religious slant.” However, upon hearing of Erickson’s case, the ADF sent a letter to university officials, seeking to appeal the rule.
The school decided to grant Erickson’s request, as expressed through ADF’s letter, although some school officials still said Erickson could face “repercussion” if she chose to keep the references to Jesus and the Bible in her speech.
ADF lawyer Travis Barham commented on the school’s decision:
“We applaud the university…

“Thou art my hope…”
"Thou art my hope in the day of evil." - Jeremiah 17:17 The path of the Christian is not always bright with sunshine; he has his seasons of darkness and of storm. True, it is written in God's Word, "Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace;" and it is a … Continue reading “Thou art my hope…”
Are You A Fool Like Me?
I’m sure it’s the little boy still hiding in my 57-year-old paralyzed body, but I enjoy trying to pull off a good April Fools Day joke on Mary. In our thirty-two years of marriage, I probably have a 75% success rate.
It can be a real challenge to carry out a successful April fools joke with ALS because I can’t speak so I have to attempt to fool her via email or using my computer’s (no inflection) robot voice (the only “voice” I’ve had for the last twenty years).
As I’m sure you know, April Fools Day and Easter (the day we celebrate Christ’s resurrection from the dead) fall on the same day this year. The two have not fallen on the same day since 1956.
Are Christians foolsfor believing that Christ was literally raised from the dead?
Atheists, agnostics and those of other faiths, believe it…

Love One Another
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-45
Love one another.
“By your love everyone will know that you are my disciples.” Loving people is how the world knows we are followers of Christ. Loving one another is a command of the Lord and through obeying this, we allow the world to see not only our love but the love of God.
“Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” 1 John 4:8
What a powerful verse. Whoever does not love does not know God. So what this verse is telling me is I can pray until I can’t speak, read His word until I can’t see and seek Him with every fiber of my being…

Overcoming Regrets
Do you ever feel like your regrets are haunting you like ghosts from your past?
I used to allow regrets over things I’ve said or wished I had said and things I’ve done or wish I had done, to steal my joy, peace and hope. I became so aggravated with these condemning “ghosts” of regret that I finally decided to figure out how to defeat them. The following “battle-plan” (for conquering regrets) has helped me and I hope it might help others dealing with this problem too.
Defining this enemy
Even though I knew what the word regret meant, I began by looking up the definition, which, according to Webster’s Dictionary, is: “sorrow aroused by circumstances beyond one’s control or power to repair: an expression of distressing emotion (as sorrow)”
I also noticed that repent is one of the synonyms for the word regret. I suppose this makes…
