Joy when you do what GOD asks …

Direct me in the path of YOUR commands, for there I find delight. –Β πŸ“– Psalm 119:35 πŸ“–

In this passage of Psalm 119, the Psalmist asks GOD to give him insight and guidance in obeying HIS commands. When people obey GOD’S law with all their hearts, they experience the joy of GOD in their lives. Sin always brings unhappiness, but an obedient person is a happy person, because he knows he is living within GOD’S will.

GOD’S law is in fact a set of rules HE introduced so that HIS children can be happy. It is also the main theme of the Psalm as a whole: blessed is the man who obeys GOD’S Word.

This specific joy ~ obedience to GOD’S laws ~ is not something we experience often, simply because we always succeed in breaking the commands by our daily way of living. We live in such an egocentric way that we conveniently forget what GOD commands us in HIS Word ~ we think we are clever and old enough to know the difference between right and wrong.

We have joy when we do what GOD asks. Do you experience that specific joy in your life?
If “No”, ask GOD together with the Psalmist in verse 34: “Give me understanding, and I will keep YOUR law and obey it with all my heart.

HE has promised to do this for you.

πŸ™πŸ» Heavenly FATHER, I’m sorry that I lack this joy of obedience in my life, because I tend to do as I please. Please give me insight into YOUR law and help me to obey it with my whole heart in the future, LORD JESUS. Amen.
